Jerry Koosman was instrumental in the 1969 World Series, providing two dominant, starying performances that helped the New York Mets secure their historic upset over the Baltimore Orioles.

In Game 2, with the Mets trailing the series 1–0, Koosman pitched 8.2 innings, allowing just one run in a 2–1 victory. His ability to neutralize Baltimore’s powerful lineup on the road shifted momentum and demonstrated that the Mets could compete with the heavily favored Orioles. Koosman’s command and composure were evident as he worked efficiently through all nine innings without relying on the bullpen.

He was even more pivotal in Game 5, the series clincher. Pitching a complete game, Koosman allowed three runs in a 5–3 win, securing the championship. Despite a tense ninth inning in which the Orioles threatened, he maintained control and recorded the final out himself.

Across the series, Koosman went 2–0 nearly throwing two complete games with 17.2 IP, exemplifying durability, poise, and effectiveness under pressure—key factors in the Mets’ “Miracle” championship run.
